The project GeNeus – Gender Neutral Tools and Test for Selection Processes came to end after 30 months of activities, outputs and meetings. As a consequence, Centro per lo Sviluppo Creativo Danilo Dolci (CSC) showed the project products in a final event in Moltivolti in Palermo (Sicily) on 18 February 2020. In the first part of the event, the general situation of gender issues in the job market in Italy was explained, underling that still there are relevant gender differences in relation to the salary and the type of professional figures. It was underlined that women are more likely than man to pick jobs in which there is not a career path (for example, the figure of the teacher). However, if the women take in structured professional paths, they are less likely to reach apical professional positions than men.
Secondly, the project GeNeus was introduced, underlying all the project phases together with challenges and successes. The main outcomes of the projects are the following gender-neutral tools and tests, assuring an impartial recruitment, minimizing “unconscious bias” related to gender discrimination:
- A Job Analysis Template;
- A General Competencies for Employment Questionnaire;
- Problem-solving Exercises;
- An Interview Template;
- An Evaluation Checklist of the applicant.
These tools were modulated for different targets: Public Administration, Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and Post-Secondary Professional Education Institutes. Finally, these tools were presented in the context of a case-study related to SME in order to clarify the functions of the tools in a practical context.
After the three presentations, the audience had the opportunity to elaborate questions as well deepen the reasons why still in 2020 gender discrimination is a “hot topic.” In this sense, the reception from the audience was very positive, showing interest and engagement, formulating doubts and considerations in the topics of the project.
The project GeNeus – Gender Neutral Tools and Test for Selection Processes has a duration of 30 months and it is funded by Erasmus+ Strategic Partnerships for vocational education and training.
